One of the largest investments you make inside your home is what you choose for your flooring. The most common choice as a floor covering is carpeting and the reasons for their popularity are both practical and aesthetic. Unlike other types of flooring, carpet is a natural insulator, providing warmth in winter and keeping cool air trapped during summer months. It reduces the noise level by eliminating or muffling the clatter of different sounds. It is also soft underfoot, providing a comfortable walking surface and reducing fatigue.

The beauty of carpet is evident in the overwhelming selection of styles, patterns and colours in which it is offered. Before choosing a particular style you should consider how much use the areas to be carpeted will receive and whether you will be able to keep the carpet cleaner. It is always best to balance the elegance of your carpets with the areas they are to be used. Entrance-ways, halls and stairways should have carpets that will not show wear and tear because these areas are usually subject to heavy traffic and the carpet cleaning is generally more difficult. Rooms which are favorite play areas for children, such as family rooms, also take a lot of punishment, so make sure durability is a consideration.

Most people want their carpets to last long and look good throughout their home. In order to achieve this, you should take certain steps to ensure that your carpet looks good even after years and years of wear and tear. In order to extend the life of your carpet follow a few of these simple carpet cleaning tips.

Regular vacuuming is the most important thing to do if you want your carpet cleaner. Contrary to popular belief, regular vacuuming will extend and not decrease the life of your carpet. Friction caused by embedded dust and grime is responsible for breaking down the fibers in your carpet and for carpets losing their color and sheen. Vacuum your carpet at least every other day to keep it clean from carpet killing dust.

Another major enemy of carpets and their life are moisture and stains. Apart from having carpet cleaning products for all kinds of stains on hand, it is important to get your carpet coated with an anti stain finish like Scotchgard. While this does not mean that your carpet will become stain proof, it will definitely become stain resistant. Any extra protection that you add to your carpet can only make it easier to keep your carpet cleaner.

Wear and tear is another issue that you need to tackle, especially for high quality carpets. Generally, carpets get worn out at certain places while other areas keep looking like new. If we are looking at wall to wall carpeting, then you should consider using area rugs or entrance mats at high traffic places like corridors, in front of doors and near tables to save your carpet from getting worn out. This will prolong the life of your carpet for many years.

The use of carpet padding is extremely important to save your carpet from uneven wear and tear. Put plastic foam carpet padding under all your area rugs and carpets to ensure that they get evenly worn out. Another thing that you should make it a point to do is to rotate the furniture that is kept on your carpet regularly so that your carpet does not get permanently depressed at certain places where furniture has been placed for a long time.

Apart from cleaning your carpet at home by vacuuming, you should also get them professionally cleaned at least once a year. This will help in taking out embedded dust particles from carpet fibers, bringing back its sheen and give it a soft hand. After getting your carpets cleaned, get them coated with carpet protection finish.

Following these simple carpet cleaning tips will ensure the beauty of your carpets for many years. They will look good far beyond your expectations.

There are many different products available on the market that will help you to remove almost all types of stains. The ideal solution in minimizing or totally removing stains is by simply cleaning the spills and dirt the moment they crop up.  Cleaning them up won’t even require you to leave your home just to rush out and buy the expensive types of cleaning products.

There are several ways to clean up stains simply by using products already available in your home which you use on a regular basis, such as detergents, rubbing alcohol, vinegar, lemon juice, etc.  Its simply a matter of knowing how to use these common household products and the procedures involved to clean up stains.  Below, you’ll find some tips on how to clean up pet stains and some other types of common carpet stains.

Pet stain For your first option you can use one teaspoon of clear, household type ammonia to a half cup of cold water.  You can use this solution in a spray bottle or apply it to the carpet directly.  It is very important not to wet the carpets backing when you apply the solution.  After you have applied the solution, use paper towels to blot then allow it to dry completely.

For a second option, you can use detergent solution made of hand soap or dish soap.  The combination is one quarter of a teaspoon detergent to one quart of water.  You should always make sure the soap doesn’t contain bleach or lanolin.

The third and best option, is to use water, it can re-hydrate the stain to help with removal.  Most types of pet stains can be cleaned up by using a steam cleaner.  Once you have finished, be sure to dry the area as thoroughly as possible.

Ink stains:

  1. You can purchase isopropyl rubbing alcohol at your local department or grocery store.
  2. You can apply it by pouring some onto a clean white towel or cloth.  You can use paper towels as well, as long as they are white.
  3. Blot the stain as much as possible until it is removed.
  4. Make sure you be careful, because if the stain is small, you need to blot in one direction only so you don’t spread the stain.

Beer and wine stains:

  1. Mix a solution with one part white vinegar and one part water.
  2. Apply the mixture to the stain using a spray bottle to saturate.
  3. You should allow the stain to sit around ten to fifteen minutes.
  4. Use a sponge and clean in a rubbing motion.
  5. Rinse the area with warm water.
  6. Brush the carpet pile back into the natural direction it has.
  7. By using layers of white paper towels, place paper towels on top of the area, then something with weight on the paper towels.  Allow everything time to sit like this until the area has dried.

Below is 4 tips to clean carpet (carpet cleaning):

Tip 1
Make sure that you get a deep cleaning of the carpet as often as it is needed.  To achieve a clean carpet, you’ll need to have it cleaned by a professional or you’ll need to use a deep cleaning machine.  There are advantages and disadvantages to this method, although a thorough cleaning is needed every six months or so.

Tip 2
Keep your eye out for spills and take care of them in a quick manner to keep your carpet clean.  Simply using water on a spill will help most of them.  If that doesn’t work, simply expand your search.  You’ll find several products out there on the market that can help you get rid of spills quick.

The products range in use and can be helpful when matching them with the different types of spills. You can also use a mixture of water and vinegar to help you keep stains out.  By taking immediate action you can prevent spills from becoming stains that leave you with a dirty and messy carpet.

Tip 3
A clean carpet is a carpet that has been taken care of very well.  You should always take the time to vacuum your carpet often and make sure you do a good job.  This means going over the floor in several directions to allow the vacuum time to pick up all it can.  High quality vacuums are the best choice, as they get up the most debris.

Tip 4
The proper use of entrance will greatly help to clean off people’s shoes and keep most of the tracked soils off the surface of the carpet.  You should always use entrance mats outside of your doors and make sure that anyone who enters your home use the mats to help get debris and dirt off of their shoes before they enter.  You can also take off your shoes and request that guests do the same, prior to entering your home.

Around 80% of the soils that enter a building or home are dry.  The remaining 20% are greases, oils, and starches.  The dry soil types are easily  removed by vacuuming.  As long as they are removed on a daily basis, it will help to minimize the damage to the carpet.

Maintaining and keeping a clean carpet is more than just healthy, as it can also help to prolong the life of the carpet.  If you have just laid the carpet, you are already aware of the expenses involved with doing so.

Even if you haven’t had this done, you probably know the benefits of keeping a clean carpet.  A clean carpet will add value to the home if it is maintained well.  It will also help to keep the home free from odors as well.  Also, it will help to make a comfortable living area for your friends and your family.

Although vacuum cleaning can remove a majority of the dry soil, it is also necessary to clean your carpet on a frequent basis to remove the oily, sticky soil that builds up in the pile as a result of odors and dirt that is tracked in from outside.

If you can clean the carpet before it becomes too bad, the cleaning chore will be easier to do and a lot more successful.  There is a myth that is totally false, which states that cleaning the carpet before it is necessary will get it dirtier faster.  The carpet with the typical household should be cleaned every 12 – 18 months depending on the number of people living there and the amount of traffic that walks on the carpet.

The choice of the right vacuum is important as well.  There are some vacuums that will leave residues behind, which will promote re-soiling and basically defeat the whole purpose of household cleaning.

Professional carpet cleaners It is in your best interest to use professional cleaners simply because their experience will enable them to do a much better job than you can do yourself. The equipment they use has more extraction power than the units available to you, and the carpet will dry faster as well.  They know the cleaning agents to use, and they know the differences in carpet construction and fibers.

Doing it yourself If you have made the decision to rent a steam cleaning machine and do the job yourself, you should check on several systems before you make a selection.  Most of the units available for rent don’t clean well enough and may end up damaging your carpet.  Therefore, you should always consider the following:

  • Several rental companies offer cleaning equipment that is similar to what the professionals use.  The equipment should have enough vacuum power to allow the carpet to dry within 12 hours of cleaning.  You should always avoid rental units found in retail and grocery stores that don’t have the power to extract the cleaning solution from the carpet fast enough, as it can actually damage the carpet due to over wetting.
  • Make sure you avoid over wetting the carpet.  Any prolonged dampness can lead to mildew growth and bacteria in the carpet, or cause a seperation of the backing.  A wet carpet that stays this way for longer than 24 hours can develop problems.  You can control this by using proper equipment and the right training.
  • Carpets that have stain resistant treatments have to be cleaned with products that are formulated for this very purpose, or the stain resistance will be impaired and the warranty will be voided.  Never use cleaning or spotting solutions that contain bleaches as they can mess up the color of the carpet. Never use any silicone based treatments on the carpet.
  • You can help to reduce the drying time by using several fans to move the air around the carpet.  You can use a dehumidifier as well, as it will pull moisture from the air.

Hot water extraction
The hot water extraction system is highly recommended, as it considered to be one of the best methods
for carpet cleaning.  Also known as steam cleaning, the process consists of spraying a mixture of water and detergent into the pile and recovering the water and soil with a powerful vacuum that puts it into a holding tank.  You can use a truck mounted unit or a portable self contained unit as well.  This method is easily one of the best, and is ideal for soiled carpets or pet stains that you have yet to get out of the fibers.

Rugs cleaning for you convenience is matter. This can be make our life more relax. What needed for this is clean home for almost everything including Rugs. So, cleaning home is not only floor, wall, ceiling and so on. It also carpet and rugs.

There is nice tips about Rugs cleaning as stated by http://chooseakitchen.com/make-your-home-more-relaxing-with-rug-cleaning/11/2008/
If you decide that you want to tackle cleaning the carpet on your own, then there are a few tips that can help you give the proper care and attention to your rugs. But, you should always remember that there are professionals who are experts at carpet and rug cleaning who can take care of things for you if you start to feel overwhelmed, or just simply don’t have the time to do the job properly.

One of the first carpet cleaning tips to keep in mind is to be careful not to be too aggressive or harsh when trying to remove a pet stain or other type of stain on your rugs and carpets. If you do this, then the chances are good that the stain will spread and you could even push the substance that is soiling the carpet even deeper into the fibers, which could cause further damage the fibers and make it almost impossible to get out.

The next tip is for pet stain removal and spots. Attend to the stained areas as quickly as possible. Nearly all carpet stains can be removed with the proper carpet cleaning product and method as long as the stain does not have a chance to permanently set. Usually, you have a window of a few days to get the stain out, and the earlier you try the better so that you will still have time to call a professional cleaner if you need to.

Another carpet cleaning tip is to do a test application of any cleaning chemicals that you think you want to use before applying the produce widely over the surface of the floor coverings. Test a small area that is out of the way and out of sight first and look for discoloration. Some types of fibers used in rugs and carpets will loose their color very quickly when certain chemicals are used on them.

If you are not confident in your abilities to correctly and effectively do the rug cleaning by yourself, then you would be wise to engage the help of a professional carpet cleaning service. Not only do these services have the right carpet cleaning equipment and chemicals to do the job well, they also have the expertise to tackle any kind of tough problem you might have. In short order they can get the carpeting back to a condition that will add to the experience of enjoying your home and surroundings.

Be Warned Hard Floors Are Much More Unhealthy That Carpets Are! That’s a pretty controversial statement that carpets are healthier that hard flooring. Why would I say it when Asthma UK recommends that asthma sufferers remove their carpets?

Well first not all asthma is caused by what we call “air allergens”. The four main air allergen in the home are, dust mites, pet dander, mould, and pollen. Let’s start with that statement and then I will explain my reasons.

For one moment think about the term “Air Allergen” air being the key word here, well if you have hard floors then those allergen will blow around every time you open a door from outside. Carpet act as a filter trapping those allergens stopping them blowing around.

You might say but having them trapped is not a good thing. Well they are better trapped than in you lungs. And they don no harm here where they can be vacuumed away and periodically removed with carpet cleaning.

So why do Asthma UK recommend removing carpets? You will have to ask them but I will say they will tell you that dust mite bread here. It’s now been proven that dust mite needs moisture in their environment and carpets don’t provide this. It’s the mattress that they love.

I remember watching a TV program about asthma and Asthma UK where telling these sufferers that they should rip up carpets and use hard floors. Well as I have said dust will then be a problem. Well you could get around this by mopping every day. The amount of times each day would depend on the type of home environment you have. More kids and pets more dust equals more mopping each day.

Seeing your carpets as your homes lungs filtering out the dust for you help’s you understand what’s going on with causes of asthma attacks.

If you are the one who is really worry about your carpet, here is some simple guide for treating stains and maintaining carpets and upholstery.

1. Always clean up spills quickly to avoid staining. Start by removing any solid debris. Clean the spill using clean, cold water and blotting with white paper towels or cloths. Never scrub or brush the spill as it will damage fibers and possibly set the stain. Only if this method does not work should you move on to harsher treatments.

2. Regular vacuuming and spot treatment will improve the quality and life span of your carpets and upholstery.

3. Since chemicals are hard on the fibers of carpets and upholstery, you should always start with the weakest solution before moving on. Start with clean water and move onto a mild solution of liquid soap (never use laundry detergent) or an oxygen based cleaner which usually works well on organic stains (food, animal, blood) before using chemical spot removers.

Carpet spot removal products are made with some of the most dangerous chemicals and should always be applied when wearing gloves and in an area with good ventilation.

4. Test the cleaning products for carpets or upholstery in a hidden spot to make certain it won’t stain. Place a white paper towel or cloth on the tested area to check for color transfer. If the cleaner is safe apply a small amount of spot removal product to a clean, white cloth and work your way from the OUTSIDE of the stain inwards. Keep at it only using a stronger solution when you are no longer getting results with water or mild detergent.

Upholstery stains can also be treated with a 3% Hydrogen Peroxide solution that can be left on and dabbed. You do not need to rinse. Hydrogen Peroxide works equally well on vinyl furniture.

5. When the stain is removed rinse with clean water and blot the excess out. Replace towels when they are too wet to absorb anymore water. Be careful to avoid over wetting as it can also damage your carpet or cause mildew in your carpet or upholstered furniture.

Taking the time to treat spills before they’re stains will go a long way in keeping your carpets and upholstery looking as good as new!

The carpeting in your house was likely a large investment, which was made to make your home more comfortable and attractive. It’s a fact that rugs and carpets get dirty and stained and there are many approaches to carpet cleaning, depending on the type of carpet you have and the kind of problems that needs to be dealt with. If you have some stains or problem areas due to high traffic, then you might want to consider calling in professional carpet cleaners to help restore the look and feel of your floor coverings.

There are several different routes that a homeowner can take to get their rugs and carpets cleaned and to remove stubborn stains, such as a pet stain. There is carpet cleaning equipment that a homeowner can purchase and also carpet cleaning machines that can be rented. This can be a good approach if you enjoy the “do-it-yourself” method for getting things done around the house; it can save you money as well.

However, many people don’t want to buy and store their own carpet cleaning equipment, nor do they want to rent it and have to lug it back and forth to the store. Instead, they would rather have professional carpet cleaners come to their home to deal with the cleaning issues.

A professional carpet cleaning service will bring much more than just the equipment to properly clean and care for the rugs and carpets in your home. They also will have a variety of different types of cleaning supplies for different purposes and the different situations that they might encounter in your home. They will have carpet cleaning and shampooing formulas, as well as mixtures and solutions for various types of stains that have probably accumulated on your carpeting.

Even more important than the equipment and the cleaning compounds that professional carpet cleaners bring is the expertise and experience that they have. Frankly, there is more to cleaning carpets than just getting a carpet cleaning machine and filling it with the solution that is going to be used.

If you use the wrong type of chemicals in the cleaning solutions for the carpeting without knowing what can and cannot be used with the specific fibers in your rugs and carpets, then you could end up doing a great deal of damage and even ruining the carpet entirely. When you hire a professional carpet cleaning service you are also paying for their knowledge, as they will know what is safe to use on your carpets and rugs, and they will bring the correct chemicals and cleaners with them.

The professional carpet cleaners have special training in testing the carpet in an isolated area, so they will know exactly how the fibers in the floor covering will respond to the cleaning chemicals. These factors should make it a simple decision to call a professional carpet cleaning company to let them do the backbreaking work and to make sure that everything goes smoothly.
